“With mastering comes great responsibility. The artist spends years writing, producing and mixing. Then along comes the mastering engineer at the last stage. It could be some guy you’ve never met. It’s very easy to ruin a good album and I’ve heard it done many times. With mastering, there are no shortcuts or easy wins. There is no room for compromise. I feel it’s very important to respect the mix. Enhance what is already there and only make corrections if necessary. I like to work with the band rather than just blindly imprint my own taste over everything. With the finished master my aim is to create a cohesive and satisfying listening experience which brings out the very best of everything.”
